In contrast to many of the equations in this chapter, those for the symmetry model have always been expressed in terms of dissociation constants, as they are here. However, Monod, Wyman and Changeux used the symbols R and T differently from the way they are used here: R represented not a single subunit but the complete oligomer Rn in general or R2 for the dimer, and R2 , for example, represented an oligomer with two ligand molecules bound, symbolized here as R2A2 . T was used similarly.
