In Assessment Task 1, students will be presented with a political scenario involving proposed changes to Australia's immigration policy. Specifically, the policy will propose change to the immigration health requirement. For this task, students will select (and then represent) a non-Government organisation (NGO) with an interest in the policy change. Students will assume the role of the NGO's Senior Policy Advisor and conduct an analysis on the proposed policy changes from the perspective of their selected NGO. This analysis will focus on underlying political/stakeholder interests, implementation issues and comment on likely impacts of the policy on the NGO's represented group. Students will present their policy analysis in the form of an open letter to a key political figure within the scenario. This open letter, from the NGO, will provide the politician with the results of the policy analysis (i.e. the interests, implementation and impact issues) in an attempt to persuade the politician. you will be writing the letter on their behalf, (NGO-Refugee Council of Australia ) and you will be writing from their perspective and their interest group (e.g. that of refugees for the Refugee Council etc).
