In a state of nature, I am hungry, and I see food on the other side of a raging river which I cannot cross. I do see that a fallen tree trunk could be used to cross the river, but it is too heavy for me to lift by myself. I see some people not far away. What would a rational choice theorist predict, and would it be any different from an exchange theorist’s prediction?
