Research Dialogue/Annotated Bibliography Instructions:
1. Title = Research Dialogue Debate Question. For example: Are Humans Primarily Responsible for Climate Change?

Abstract = delineation of controversy + 5 points of view appearing in discussion. One or two paragraphs in length
Setting: Bring these 5 characters together in an imagistic and intriguingsetting—at least one good solid colorful paragraph. Local color
and context would be a bonus. (This is the sole “make believe, fictional component in your research dialogue.)

Characters List (5 total real people)Three (3) experts (real people educated & published in your topic. In their biographies, include: (one solid paragraph in length).Education and/or current job descriptionTitles of at least TWO (2) publications (articles or books)Final sentence delineating very specifically his or her point of view + reason for point of view
Two (2) “non-experts”: (include physical description, education/backstory/one sentence indicating point of view + reasoning for point of view

IMPORTANT: You’ll be finding your published sources via LMC’s databases & online card catalog.

Dialogue/Conversation: Each character speaks 3 (THREE) times for half a page, double-spaced.
Documentation: In-text, APA style:
Experts' direct quotations and paraphrases should be parenthetically documented. For example: (Jones, 2009, p. 67). Author’s last name, publication date-- & page number only if source is a paper/hard copy or PDF.
Interviewee must be in-text documented also: Format: Example: (A. Gore, personal communication, Dec. 7, 2010). No need to in-text document yourself.
Annotated Bibliography = the last page or pages in your dialogue. (the 2nd place you’ll document your sources).

To find your articles (sources), search LMC’s LIBRARY DATABASES: LMC Library/databases/popular/apply.

Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints is probably the best of all, but look at:CQ Researcher—authors are journalists, though ; Issues and Controversies—articles are unsigned, though (written by staff) & Academic Search Complete, as well as others in the Popular listing.
You’re looking for 2 articles addressing the same question, with opposite stances. The authors must be experts—Then you’ll look for a 3rd article addressing the same question—OR—if the article/author simply offers information on the debate question, that’s okay.
Process: Each of these authors will be your 3 experts: you’ll highlight passages from these articles and cut & paste into your “new” dialogue. After each pasted, borrowed passage, you’ll include the in-text citation: for example: “ (Gore, 2017). Remember to in-text cite your interviewee, also: for example: (A. Gore, personal communication, Dec. 1, 2020).

Start by looking for a Debate Questions. CQ Research has a “browse topics” link. Others have topics listed.

The BEST database, probably, for this assignment is Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints.

You can also look at a WEB source, Procon.org. But please find at least TWO of your sources via LMC’s online database or books. And of course, Google & Google Scholar, just to see what’s out there, can be fun—but take care as to validity of source.

While I'm requiring only ONE article/source per expert, TWO per expert (thus 6 listed in your Annotated Bibliography) would be superb! (and you need not necessarily draw on both for the conversation.)
