In 1985 a manufacturing company produced televisions in both Japan and the United States. A very large random sample of products was taken to evaluate the quality of picture relative to a standard (which was a good measurement for picture quality). It was found that all the US manufactured products had no defects, while the Japan-built products had some defects. However, customers typically preferred the picture quality of Japanese-manufactured televisions. Explain this phenomenon.
