Imagine that you are the chief of police in a department that has affirmative action policies, and you are a strong proponent of creating a diverse workforce. You are considering two final applicants to be hired for one police officer position. Both are equally qualified on all levels: they both have college degrees in criminal justice, both have clear backgrounds, and they each have similar prior work experience. They each scored equally well on the written test and the oral interview. One of the applicants is an African American female, and the other is a white male. Who do you hire? Why?
