If love is, as Fredrickson affirms, the "supreme" emotion, why do people frequently behave in a manner that seems very far removed from "positivity resonance"? Instead of speculating broadly, look back over the selection for clues: wh�e does Fredrickson's account reveal potential vulnerabilities in the system? For example, Uri Hasson's work suggests that just as people can share positive e'moc:ions, they can transmit negative emotions as weU. Because positivity is not guaranteed by our biology, Fredrickson's essay might be seen as an argument for a special kind of mental hygiene. If we understand our emotions more fully, can we live more happily? Can we change the world beyond omselves by trying to be happier?
