Identify someone you can interview about your research topic. It can be someone you live with or someone you can talk to one the phone, but it should be someone you think will have experience or strong feelings about the topic. (It can be someone who participated in your survey). Write five questions for the interview. These are open-ended questions, meaning questions that you hope will elicit a long and interesting response. Some possible questions:
Tell me about a time when you . . . .
How do you think this problem could be resolved?
Be prepared to ask follow-up questions like: Can you tell me more about that situation? How did you feel? etc. The interview should be five minutes long. You will need to record and transcribe the interiview (type up everything that was said). Please feel free to conduct the interview in the language that is more comfortable for the subject and type it up in that language. You will be typing up the transcript using as exactly as possible the words of the subject, including curse words, repetition, etc. For now submit your questions and select your subject. You may want to ask the person you want to interview. Tell them that while the interview will be recorded and transcribed their name and identifying details (like place and age) will not be anywhere in the research paper
Do your interview and record it. Type it up like a script. using a pseudonym for example:
Marianne: Thanks for agreeing to this interview
Bill: No problem. I got nothing better to do.
Remember if another language is easier for you and your subject, use that language! If doesn't matter if I can't understand the language!!
