    Five Insights Gained through Course Context
Introduction
    Critical criminology has been closely associated with orthodox criminology in terms of understanding and analyzing the nature of crime and justice system. In fact, there are several provisions or multiple dimensions through which, the conceptual frameworks of critical criminology are practiced (Akers & Sellers, 2013). It is more like finding links between the various forms of crime and how the penal system regulates the widely spread message about the crime that has happened (Lynch, 2014). Especially in the context of gaining insightful views during the course, critical criminology gave some interesting notions and theories to understand that crime and punishment are constantly evolving together. The nature of the two is abstract; the objective of crime is to satisfy the needs of a few that is illegal as well as the nature of penal system is to prevent this ideology from commonly spreading (Akers & Sellers, 2013).
Insights of Critical Criminology
    At first, the insight that was gained from the course is related to the formal understanding of the deterrence theory which states that if the state of justice system is specific, swift and severe, it assists in reducing the ratio of crime in society (Akers & Sellers, 2013). However, in spite of the fact that deterrence theory remains at the centre of criminal justice system, critical criminology and its concepts investigate through the empirical validity of the theory itself. If the punishment is severe and rapidly implemented, it does not always serve the purpose of eliminating the condition of crime in society. The severity or the certain nature of any legal provision does not always convey the positive message (Akers & Sellers, 2013).
