The paper conducts an environmental analysis of Bakers Square. Bakers Square was a
casual dining restaurant that, although served breakfast, lunch as well as dinner, was highly
famous for its pies. The restaurant was primarily located in the region of Great Lakes
region as
well as in California. In March 2008, the parent company of Bakers Square, VICORP, now
American Blue Ribbon Holdings, LLC, had filed for the Chapter 11 of bankruptcy attributing to
the decline in the restaurant sales as well as high rate of leases (Bakers Square, 2011). The
organization then closed its 56 stores, which included the original Bakers Square in the Des
Moines, Iowa. The company then reduced to only 45 Bakers Square restaurants comparing to
approximately 148 that had existed back in 2001 (Bakers Square, 2011).
The environmental analysis of a company decides upon the internal and external
environment it operates in. The external environment of a company consists of the macro
environment and industry environment in which a company operates. It includes political, legal,
economic, social, technological and environmental factors affecting the company. This also

Way, burger king, Wendy’s and YUM which run some of the very famous brands like KFC,

cap, employees, gross and net margins. In a global environment, Barriers of trade and
information sharing impact the company’s business in a primary way. Removal of such barriers
helps the company to expand its operations in other countries. These also help in raising funds
globally thereby giving advantage of cheaper funds. Growth in countries like India and China are
posing increased opportunities of doing business in these countries (About Bakers Square, 2012).
One of the primary strength of the company is its global presence. With such a huge
global precence it outperforms any other food chain in the world. Another strength of the
company is its strong brand and value proposition among its customers. Therefore, franchise
business model of the company acts as a major source of strength for Bakers Square. The
