Identify a site which you believe has development potential (a site which is currently vacant, or sites with buildings in a poor state of repair or disuse). Your site must be in an urban context (i.e. no rural greenfield sites).
As per the drawings in Appendix A, the proposed design for development is the ‘600 Church Street’ project. As such, you must ensure the site you identify is large enough to accommodate this development.
Undertake research and investigation on your chosen site and analyse any environmental factors that may affect the construction process in any way. Write a report outlining the benefits and drawbacks of the site. Provide an explanation on how the environmental factors you identify may affect the construction process.
When undertaking your research, you must also consider the following items:
Site amenities
Location of street-level loading bay(s) to service the tower crane
Location of concrete pumping bay
Location of a materials/personnel hoist
(These items will be examined in more detail in Part B of this Section)
Your report must contain the following:
Address and location of the site
Google-map image documenting the location of the site
A basic plan drawing showing the general dimensions of the site
Street-level photographs of the site (Google street-view images are
acceptable)
Your report for section 1, part A must be no more than 1000 words. Use any photographs/maps/sketches which may assist in illustrating your findings.
Physical site-reconnaissance is highly recommended in order to analyse the site in as much detail as possible. The more detail you can provide the better, but keep your report as succinct as possible.
You do not need to consider planning/legal/local-council restrictions for the purpose of this exercise. Consider environmental factors only.
