As you will be working in a classroom and lab environment, you will be provided with a business background/profile to develop the required business context. For simulation purpose, you will play the role of a Network Analyst working for an IT consulting firm. Your trainer/assessor will play the role of the client where required and provide you with the required information and feedback. Your current institute/college is provided as the case organisation. Use the following information for your reference; Business Scenario: ALTEC is a Registered Training Organisation providing a range of vocation and higher education courses to local and international students. ALTEC’s campus is spanned over two floors of a modern St Kilda Road building, and used by approximately 800 students and 40 staff members. ALTEC has two dedicated wired networks for administrative/academic and student services respectively. Print, scan, email, and internet services are shared across the networks. The college uses its own intranet as a communications channel, content repository, and an application sharing tool that supports day‐to‐day college activities. The college uses separate email/data, file and print, database, and legacy servers. With a view to expand its educational services in higher education, ALTEC has decided to add an additional floor to its existing campus (ground and first floor). An entire second floor has been leased; and is being fitted out for academic operations. There are also plans to use a part of the floor as an administrative area. With a view to segregate its academic operations, ALTEC’s plan for the campus is; Vocational Course Ground and First Floor Higher Education Courses Second Floor As the new floor will need to be connected with the existing network, the college has hired services of Bytes Consultancy to plan and upgrade its existing network. In particular, the college requires that; 1. Two core backbones separating staff and student/visitor access and traffic 2. Different access levels and services across different floors 3. Integrated voice, video, network management, and routing traffic (over VPN) 4. Draw a current network diagram and identify existing network components 3. Research and develop a solution for the new requirements 4. Draw a proposed physical network topology diagram 5. An implementation plan lists all the tools/resources required for installation and identifies/outlines key tasks in a step‐by‐step format within the given time frame. Using your network plan created in Assessment Task 1, develop an implementation plan for ALTEC for installation of the new network. 2. Executive summary
The developed document for ALTEC client organization will help to understand the current system of ALTEC and also identifies the possible improvements in their projects. The level of client organization named ALTEC will be updated and increases the system values for ALTEC. This will lead to better administration and improved courses for ALTEC. For expanding the position of this potential project some required movements are done here. The involved technologies and developed solution for ALTEC is described with help of diagrams in this document for better understanding. The functionality and network configuration is shown with help of captured screen shots. In this proposed solution, the UTM firewall implementation is also recommended so that the process load on used switches will be reduced and required changes can be implemented in easy and effective manner.
3. Scenario of provided business
The client organization ALTEC is registered place to provide training for higher level courses and other professionals. There are two levels maintained by ALTEC for their 40 staff members and related 800 students. The ALTEC makes use of different print server, file server, database server, and email server for both staff members and related students. For capacity improvements, the addition of extra floor is decided by ALTEC organization. So, the distribution for new campus will be as follows:
1) The ground floor and first floor of building used by ALTEC is reserved for professional courses.
2) The second floor of building used by ALTEC is reserved for higher courses.
4. Requirement analysis and proposed solution
The points showing key requirements for ALTEC organization are listed below:
1) The complete WAN of ALTEC requires improved scalability for added floor.
2) Effective network services for managing network of ALTEC and its devices.
3) Implementation of VPN.
4) Shaping the increased traffic and maintaining control list for added floor.
5) Maintaining access levels for different users.
On bases of above requirements, below listed solution can be developed:
1) Make a meeting with the client ALTEC for improved ability, easy disaster recovery, improved security and all time availability.
2) The separation of IP address for ALTEC staff and related students is developed.
3) The distribution of required switches needs to be done properly.
4) The implemented firewall for complete ALTEC system will maintain effective security and required arrangements of monitoring.
5) For scalability of WAN, the connection zones are maintained in my proposed solution.
6) The used core switches will effectively manage switching, firewall and associated server implementation.
7) The used edge switches will easily maintain the user load.

The existing network of ALTEC shows the following used components:

3) Servers for both users,
4) WAP,
5) Implementation of required core and edge switches,
6) Routers and firewall.
