ICT 301 Professional Experience
Assessment 1 – Reflective journal
Overview
The Professional Experience unit includes a focus on assisting students to develop their
understanding of industry practice, through engagement with industry professionals as guest
lecturers or facilitators/trainers, and with case-study and simulated work situations directly
sourced from and relevant to industry settings. In this unit, the student learning experience is
directed and managed through work experiences and academic engagement which is
conducted online (virtually).
A reflective journal requires to write fortnightly entries on work done for the unit throughout a
semester. It is required that it is a reflection on the theories learned in the study program.
Reflective writing also gives an opportunity to think deeply about something learned or an
experience.
In this assessment students will work individually to create a fortnightly reflective journal.
Timelines and Expectations
The aim of this assessment is to enable students to create a reflective journal to record their
learning experience throughout the course. Students are expected to work individually for this
assessment.

Students are expected to submit the journal through the submission folder on Moodle.
Learning Outcomes Assessed
The following course learning outcomes are assessed by completing this assessment task:
CLO1. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and understanding of ICT infrastructure technologies and
explain the relationships and interdependencies between these (ACSGA2)
CLO2. Skill and ability to identify the need for transformative digital solutions, especially those relating
to provision of ICT systems and infrastructure, elicit requirements from relevant stakeholders and
research and plan solutions to meet these requirements. (GA1, GA5, ACSGA1, ACSGA3)
CLO3. Demonstrate problem-solving skills to apply contemporary technologies to previously unseen
problems in innovative ways when implementing, maintaining, documenting and troubleshooting

CLO4. Assess and analyse the appropriateness of competing methodologies and technologies for the
analysis, design and implementation of ICT solutions, including consideration of alternative approaches
to enterprise architecture and ICT procurement. (ACSGA1, ACSGA3, ACSGA4)
CLO5. Plan and deploy secure network systems utilising current practices in IP technologies, network
security, and scalable server deployment, considering issues of virtualisation and cloud deployment.

CLO6. Communicate effectively in English in a professional context, adapt interaction style to a given
audience, work efficiently in a team, and identify and address pertinent legal, social and ethical issues in
particular ICT contexts. (GA2, GA4, ACSGA3)
Assessment Details
Students are required to write a fortnightly reflective journal entry (weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10) that
reflects critically upon their professional experience. Students must draw upon both the
workplace skills sessions and the set readings for each fortnight; and are invited to draw upon
other sources that may support their discussions and conclusions. A reflective journal uses first
person but is written in an academic style. It is an expectation that the APA 7th Edition in text
referencing system will be used. Student are required to use the DIEP model to write the
reflections . ( Please refer to the DIEP model example that has been given at the end of this
document .)
Students may wish to discuss:
• Your experiences during the simulated work placement (positives, negatives, and
general)
• What you are learning during the simulated work placement (skills, knowledge, and/or
self-reflection)
• The connection between the simulated work placement and your past units of study
(e.g. what previous learnings assisted you the most and why)
• How the articles (set readings) relate to your workplace experiences
• You are also encouraged to include thoughts or feelings about your own skills and
areas for development.
Notes:
• You must submit five journal entries.
• There is no set word limit for each entry (but suggested 500 words per journal ) as
some readings or weeks may seem more interesting to you.
• Each entry should be submitted separately.

To submit your assessment task, you must indicate that you have read and understood, and
