I'm for making a cantonal system. The massive waves of Latinos sweeping across the border are quite correctly taking what they call “the occupied lands”—Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas. They're reoccupying it, and have no particular interest in the Anglo culture.… My theory is that, essentially, the thing is never going to integrate anymore.… We're going to end up with, if we're lucky, something like Switzerland with sort of Spanish cantons.… I like the diversity of it.
