1. The American family life is changing extensively. This relates to the change in the family pattern and the pattern of the households. Two-parent households are on the decline in the United States as divorce and cohabitation are on the rise. Most families have grown smaller due to the growth of single-parent houses and the drop in the fertility rate. Advancements in and access to birth control have inherently reduced the birth rate which has led to smaller families (Cabrera). Moreover, the availability of career opportunities for women has changed households into smaller families.
2. Intimate partner violence is caused when the partner physically and mentally abuses the other person in the household. It is caused due to poverty and the associated stress that effectively contributes to the violence. Child maltreatment occurs when the child is not treated properly and these often physically and mentally abused. It refers to the mental and physical well-being of the child. This also includes because of poverty and extraordinary affairs of the parents. Elder abuse occurs when the elder members of the family of the abused are discriminated against for their age.
3. The demographic constituent of the US society is constantly changing as people are getting older, they are more likely on average than the younger people to have chronic conditions. The lower birth rate in the last several decades has been contemplated by the rise in the elder population as compared to the working population (Kugay). This has resulted in the dependent population being dependent on the younger population. Moreover, as the dependent population is larger than the working population the economic pressure on the younger population has increased. This has reduced the economic viability and the cost of healthcare will go up as the nation as a whole is getting older. Aging can be effective for economic growth and patterns of work. The impact of a growing elderly population has a balance and changes in the patterns of saving and investment in the economy. Shortage of labor supply and lack of adequate welfare system has contributed to the decelerated economic growth of the US society.
4. Families around the world come in different patterns and different sizes. It is obvious that family structures around the world are different. But one similar concept to that of the family structure of the United States was the prevalence of the large family which was common in the Asian and European cultures event in the African culture too. But with the aspects of westernization families have turned out to be smaller which is again a similar contact with that of the United States (Lee). However, the family pattern in the United States is becoming more concentrated with a single member or a single parent family which is quite different from that of the Asian family structure or African family structure.
