1. Menorrhagia and its possible cause
Menorrhagia is a condition, in which women have excessive bleeding during their menstrual flow. According to Wardle (2017), one of is possible cause is the imbalance between progesterone and oestrogen levels that, in a normal menstrual cycle, thickens the uterus linings. However, due to unbalanced secretion of both or one of them, the endometrium wall might be thicker, leading to excess shedding and consequently, heavy blood, muscle cramps and fatigue.
2. Anaemia
Anaemia can be defined as the condition, in which there are insufficient numbers of red blood cells in the blood, and as a result, the content of blood haemoglobin is also low, which is why there is paleness of body and exhaustion (Herrick, 2014).
3. Type of anaemia of Fiona with justification
There are usually, seven types of anaemia— iron deficiency, aplastic, thalassemia, haemolytic, pernicious, sickle cell and fanconi anaemia. However, viewing Fiona’s conditions, it could be inferred that she has iron deficiency anaemia because she has menorrhagia, due to which is is suffering from excessive blood loss through menstrual flow, which according to Wardle (2017), is attributed as one of the reasons for acquiring iron deficiency anaemia.
4. Reason for tiredness and shortness of breath in Fiona
Since Fiona is suffering from menorrhagia, she bleed excessively during her periods and has consequently acquired iron deficiency anaemia. Hence, her body has a deficiency of blood, causing her to feel tired as a symptom of anaemia. Besides, as mentioned by Herrick (2014), shortness of breath occurs when the oxygen content of the body decreases, due to lesser number of haemoglobin molecules present in the bloodstream to carry oxygen to and from the heart as well as lungs. Therefore, the overall processes of...
