The role of data link layer
In the seven layer of the OSI model, the data link layer is the second layer. The main function, which can be linked to the peripheral of the layer, is the error identification and correction. This functionality helps the network to be kept safe which deals with the authentication of the data, which would be prevailing, in the network. On the other hand, it also deals with the regulation of the flow of the data within the different networking layer, which is present in the OSI model.

Data link in the internet model of networking
The data link layer in the domain of the internet model of networking deals with the requirement linked to procedure and providing functional infrastructure with the access of data from the various layer of the network.
There can be various example, which can be considered in the context of data link layer, which are the HDLC, PPP (point-to-point protocol), etc. the domain of execution of the activity of the data link layer is very much similar of the context of the link layer. Encapsulation of the data in the packets is another functionality, which drives the execution of the different task in the network.
The two parts of the data link layer
Based on the functionality the data link layer can be broadly be divided into two which are stated below:
· Media access control (MAC) and
· Logical link layer (LLC)
The parts which are stated above has an enhanced service area in the network and it gives the provision of the IEE 802.2 LLC protocol with all the features which is linked ot the IEEE 802 MAC layer. Example in the context is the IEEE 802.11 and the token ring.
The role of the network interface card (NIC)
Communication is one of the most information functionality, which can be referred to the network interface card. In the context there are majorly two types of connection, which are the connectionless (wireless), and the connection oriented (wired). Example of both of the sector are stated below:
· Connection oriented: Ethernet
· Connectionless: Wi-Fi.

Identification of the NIC (MAC addresses)
There are various procedures, which can be followed in the aspect of the identification of the NIC. Each of the process has a different functionality and process linked to the execution of an particular activity.
Platform: Cisco Router
Method: s hint command
Platform: Linux/some Unix
Method: Run the ifconfig – a command
Platform: Windows 95/98/Me
Method: winipcfg untility
Platform: Windows NT/2000
Method: ipconfig/ all command
Platform: Novell NetWare
Method: Run the config command.
Network card are smart devices
The network card is considered as a smart device due to the factor that it communicates and enhances the communication sector between various devices, which can be connection in the sequence of the network (Popovic, 2018). It directly supports both of these features, which are the wireless, and the wired connection oriented protocol. The network card can be inserted in the USB panel of most of the system but in recent times most of the devices have in build network card, which reduces the external amenities being added to the working of the system
