Speech – “In the News” Informative Speech (55 points)

This informative speech is aimed at increasing audience knowledge and understanding about an issue or event currently shaping our society in a significant manner (e.g.; may select a topic from the fields of technology, health, arts, sciences, religion, sports, etc.). Briefly present background information that will help your audience more fully understand the topic and discuss current developments in the news surrounding this issue. Your main points must be effectively supported, emphasized and clarified with visual aids and should be relevant to the speech thesis. This
4 to 6 minute speech
must be presented extemporaneously. You must dress in acceptable speech attire and not doing so will result in a loss of points. Do not present your own points of view (I think…. You should…) or you can lose points. Minimum of three credible research sources must be used.
Two of the three sources must be from news reports or scholarly journals from the past twelve months. You must orally cite your sources three times in the speech correctly (see: How to Orally Cite in a Speech document).
The visual aid you will use is: Microsoft PowerPoint (You should have between 4 and 6 slides; not including the title slide). No picture only or title and picture only slides. All slides must have text: 7X7- 7 bullet points down and 7 words across at the most. Please no graphic or gruesome (photos and video clips) in your PowerPoint.
You cannot use a call to action or visualize the future for the close with impact (conclusion statement).

1.1 More than 95% of the teens are surfing the net and available on many social media platforms daily like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat. About 30% of this are considered as avidly glued youth that goes and check out the social media constantly using mobile devices. 
1.2 Influence of social media is very deep in the society that nudges both in positive and negative manner. It provides a platform in which people can stay associated with one another irrespective the distance or time -gap. It allows people to share interesting, fun and informative content. However, one of the major issue is that anyone can share anything on the platform, which may or might not be true. Furthermore, can create dangerous and harmful impact on others both mentally and physically. 
1.3 Therefore, there is a significant impact of social media in the society. Moreover, impact is also quite evident with the ways of living that have transformed over past four decades. Although social media can be very advantageous in terms of convince, connecting with anyone anytime or bringing new ways to communicate. However, the potential of damage social media offers is far beyond the set of benefits it provides to the society.
