ART 100 Professor: Bill Wellman ______________________________________________________________________ A Fictionalized Self-Portrait (Example utilizing five different files: Background, sky, face, figure, and pet.) Create a fantasy image of yourself. For ideas, consider Sci-Fi, Politics, Drama, Entertainment, Religion, Blue-Collar or White-Collar business professions, a homeless person, a Historical Painting, yourself as an animal or bug. You might also consider superhuman powers such as flight or invisibility or portraying yourself in a dual role (twins) featuring both your good side and your evil alter-ego. How to proceed. Collect material that would support your fantasy idea; you can get source images from the web or scanned images from magazines, or draw the content yourself; you can also incorporate text into the piece. After you have gathered all the content proceed to create your fantasy by putting together a digital composite in Photoshop. The result should look “plausible”, which entails taking time to blend in various components of your image. NOTE: Your face needs to be included in your creation. The final result will consist of (a minimum of) three images: your face, a figure, and a background. To have options, consider photographing your face looking forward, downward, and sideways; different expressions will be useful too; alternate “looks” provide more possibilities. Look over the tutorials and have fun with this assignment. Previous student examples are posted. Sizing your image: Your background should not exceed 9-inches; a horizontal background (most common) would be 9-inches width, a vertical background would be 9-inches height, and a square image would be 9-in x 9-in. Set the resolution at 96 PPI. Save the file as a jpeg. In Photoshop choose “Save a Copy” and choose “jpeg” as the file type. Piece due on Canvas by: 11 pm Sunday, September 10.
