I think so. The fi rst sentence aptly represents Freud’s view of Oedipal theory, while the remainder of the quote fi ts Freud’s self-perception as an unraveler of great mysteries. Since Jung saw himself in much the same way, it is hardly surprising that he ultimately broke with Freud; it was essential to fi nd new mysteries and new explanations.
