The total resistance of a rotary (angular) potentiometer is 120 Ω . This can be rotated for maximum angle of 230 degrees. What is the sensitivity of this rotary potentiometer?

Sensitivity of rotary potentiometer = output change in Ω / input change in degrees.

Here total output change will be 120 Ω and

Total angular displacement change possible is 230 degrees.

Then   sensitivity = 120 Ω / 230 degrees   = 0.522 Ω / degrees.

  1. ii) A Rotary potation meter of 10kΩ , is used to measure water level in a water tank of maximum water height of 10cm, the output of the potentiometer changes 7kΩ to 9 kΩ for the  water level raise of 2 cm.

Calculate the following:

  1. Sensitivity of the potentiometer.

  2. The water level, if the output of the potentiometer is 5kΩ.
