1. Identify and describe the main elements to consider when providing induction training to new workers in an organisation.
Induction training is an essential component of Human Resource. It is a form of introduction addressing the new employees in order to provide them with proper training that is required for the job role within the organisation. The main elements that should be considered while providing such induction training to new workers in an organisation are(Raheef, O.O., 2019) :
· A positive atmosphere should be created.
· New job concerns are addressed.
· The comfort level should be increased. The workers should feel in such a way that they belong to the organisation.
· Increased knowledge about the organisation along with the procedures and policies to be followed within the organisation.
· Organisational values should be shared.
· Specific information related to the job should also be equally shared.
2. Who are the WHS duty holders in an organisation?
A WHS Duty Holder refers to any person who owes a duty of work health and safety under the WHS Act. It includes a person who is conducting or undertaking a business, manufacturers, designer supplier et cetera. These WHS Duty holders are similar to sports administrators in terms of functioning. Under the WHS Law, the duty holders have the responsibility of ensuring workplace safety to a particular group of people or an organisation as a whole. Under the Work Health and Safety Act, 2011 and also the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011, there is a mention about the requirements of special persons having a duty to ensure health and safety in workplaces by successfully identifying, managing and eliminating risks related to health and safety(Board, POBA, 2019). Thus, in short, it can be said that the WHS Duty Holders are entitled to preserve health and safety at workplaces.
3. Communication and consultation strategies should be put in place so that all workers understand their responsibilities and the necessity of implementing an effective WHS management system. What might these strategies include?
The communication and consultation strategies should include(Chan, A., Purcell, A. and Power, E., 2016) :
· Properly identified objectives
· Proper framing of messages and proper delivery of them to the addressed audiences.
· Inviting contributory ideas in framing tools for risk assessment.
· Evaluation and amendment of policies as a result of effective sessions of consultation and communication.
4. Some of the WHS human resources that may be required in an organisation will include who?
The professionals involved with the Human Resources department of an organisation play an important role in ensuring employee health and safety, as they are very much aware of the workplace, employees as well as the job demands of the employees. They can ensure that all the employees follow the health and safety guidelines and policies implemented by the organisation. The ten main aspects of Human Resources, which play a vital role behind the success of any organisation are(Benny, A.D. and Abraham, A.F., 2020) :
· Job design, or simply, type of jobs such as workload, shifts of work, physical exertion.
· The establishment of an organisational culture which prioritises Safety over anything else.
· Recruitment and selection in accordance to commitment to safe work practices.
· Managing performance of the employees in order to ensure that among other business objectives, work health and safety is also considered equally important.
· HR policies and Procedures including the code of conduct that is to be maintained in the workplace to ensure that a safe and healthy environment is created within the organisation by eliminating the risks like bullying, harassment, drug abuse etc.
· Working facilities need to be provided to the workers.
· Health and well-being of the employees should be kept in priority by the Human Resources department of the organisation.
· Proper induction training should be provided.
· The employees need to be successfully trained.
· The absenteeism rate should be kept under control and must not be allowed by the HR department.
5. How does consultation and participation benefit a company?
Consultation and participation are two very important concepts that are required by an organisation. On the one hand, consultation allows feedback to be informed before any decision is made within an organisation, and on the other hand, participation ensures the contribution of the employees to decision making processes involving business objectives and performance(Norton, P., 2020). The benefits of participation of the employees are :
· A stronger community can be built.
· The communication between the employees is improved.
· The stress of the employees and the employers is reduced.
· The productivity of the organisation as a whole is enhanced.
· The quality of the product or services offered by the organisation is also improved.
Consultation, on the other hand, is a very important aspect for the health and safety of an organisation. Consultation improves the connection between the employees and helps to identify the risks and hazards in the workplace and eliminate those.
6. What might be included in determining the appropriate action for identified issues?
Determining the appropriate action for identified issues is a process which includes five essential steps. Those are(Mishra, P. and Schmidt, G.B., 2018):
· Firstly, the likelihood of the risk needs to be assessed correctly. The hazard causing injury or illness needs to be assessed on the likelihood of an incident or accident which may happen.
· Secondly, the degree of harm should be investigated. For example, an accident caused due to risk has possibilities of serious harm or death should be properly investigated.
· Thirdly, the possibility of finding solutions to the problems are to be identified by communicating with the employees about their knowledge of the risk or hazard and its possible impact.
· Now, the identified ways of resolving the problem are to be thoroughly assessed, considering all the inner environmental and outer environmental factors. This is the phase of exploring options present in the market. Evaluation of the sustainability of the possible solution is also necessary.
· All of these steps are then tallied with the cost of the implementation of the way to eliminate or remove the risk or hazard.
7. When must employers consult with their workers?
Employers must consult with their workers when there is a matter of identification of risks and assessment of hazards. Also, before making any sort of change within the workplace or the workplace facilities, the employers must consult with their workers in order to maintain a sound and healthy work environment within the organisation (Paton, N. and McCulloch, A., 2019).
8. Please provide at least five examples of dangerous occurrences.
Five most common examples of dangerous occurrences are(Kjellen, U. and Albrechtsen, E., 2017):
· A fire involving the combustion of any substance
· The malfunction of any machinery or work equipment which may result to fatal injury of the employees working with such a machine
· Any unintentional explosion of explosive or inflammable substances
· Collapse of a building or any structure of the building involving partial or complete collapse.
· Any short circuit or technical default in any overhead electrical wiring system.
9. Identify three types of change that might affect the safety of workers.
Changes implemented by the management of an organisation, mainly physical change in nature, can cause a hazard to the employees working in the organisation. Three types of change that might affect the safety of workers are(Sun, C., Ahn, S. and Ahn, CR, 2020):
