Introduction
In United States, the federal law has already prohibited the use and distribution of the use of m
arijuana since 1937, however, for the last five decades there has been a significant policies that have made the liberalization of the marijuana. There has been series of liberalization policies all around United States that is not fully recognized when conducting the evaluations of the recent policy changes. Marijuana can be used for various medicinal purposes; hence, the legalization of using it in a permissible quantity is demanded. In this article, the detailed discussion will be made with respect to the factors that should be considered regarding the legalization of marijuana. Further, the analysis will be done regarding the impact of the liberalization policies of marijuana will have over the society.
What is Marijuana
Marijuana is a kind of weed or herb, pot, grass, bud and a vast number of other terms that is given are a kind of greenish grey mixture of the dried flowers of the Cannabis stiva (Sarvet et al.). People mostly use marijuana for smoking purpose in hand rolled cigarettes or pipes. However, marijuana can also be used for brewing up of the tea and further it can be used or sold for the medicinal purpose. Pacher et al. have further added that some of the active ingredients of marijuana are psychoactive that is mind alerting ingredient. The marijuana has at-least 120 active ingredients among which the most abundant availability is cannabidiol and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabiol. These cannabidiols are present in various forms such as oils for applying on the skin, available in the form of capsule to be consumed as supplements, and they are available in the forms of gummy candles.
Marijuana has many medicinal purposes and uses. Compton et al. have discussed that the marijuana has many medicinal purposes. The medicinal purpose ranges from treating chronic pain in adults, nausea and vomiting tendencies those results from the chemotherapy treatment and the treatment for some symptoms of the multiple sclerosis. There are certain treatments that could be treated through marijuana such as low appetite, Tourette’s syndrome and treatment for anxiety among few peoples. Volkow et al. have further discussed that no matter in which purpose the marijuana is used, however, they have a long-term effect, such as the perception and it increases the heart rate. Smoking marijuana has serious effects over time as it may cause chronic cough and other health issues. However, in the recent years the medicinal properties of marijuana is gaining a lot of public acceptance. The effects have on respiratory system of human being such as marijuana smoking is made up of a variety of toxic chemicals that includes ammonia and hydrogen cyanide which has the potential to irritate the bronchial passages and the lungs. The prolonged smoking of marijuana can create serious lungs infections and have serious respiratory illness such as asthma and cystic fibrosis. Smoking marijuana contains also carcinogens that increase the risk of lung cancer. Marijuana has also a severe effect on the circulatory system as marijuana can further be passed from the respiratory system into your body through bloodstream in the body.
