Historical narrative function- tells a story of an event in history Commemorative function – made to honour someone (like a statue of a famous person) Political function- serves a political purpose, such as propaganda. INTRODUCTION
The area of interest that the chosen artworks are mainly concerned
on historical paintings. The paintings reflects a subject that it's a moment or a narrative aspect of a particular event in the history.
This aspect of art was popular enough to describe the scenes from history and was exclusively popular in 19th and early 20th century. It was regarded as one of the highest form of Western paintings that was considered equivalent to the Epic in Literature (Carrier).
This form of art was significant enough to depict the interactions between the figures in the art by their gesture and expression. This form of art style came to be known as history season that was imitation of historical subjects with the depiction of of events and everyday life.
LIBERTY LEADING THE PEOPLE, 1830
Liberty leading the people is a oil painting by Eugene Delacroix reflected the commemoration of the July revolution in Paris that had a historical fact of removal of Charles X and restoration of Bourbon King from the throne. This painting was one of the famous painting of Delacroix and it became the Emblem of July Revolution which was often contemplated as one of the justified revolution in the European history.
