Discussion 2: Credible Sources
Sources for any topic are mainly divided into two types, viz. primary and secondary. A
writer should try to ascertain the two types of sources before composing any genre of writing
based on the concerned topics. A writer should be cautious in evaluating the two types of
sources. To find out a primary source a writer must try to find out whether or not the source is
paving the way to learn about the topic in a first-hand manner. If it is found that the source is
providing a direct evidence about the topic under investigation then the writer can be sure of the
fact that the concerned source is a primary source. But it is to be kept in mind that while using
the primary source a writer must consider the point that every direct source is not always free
from biasness. Hence, a writer should try to incorporate primary sources in a critical manner and
should try to use them by gathering multiple perspectives on the same issue from myriads of
other primary sources. While ascertaining the secondary sources a writer, on the other hand,
should try to understand whether or not the sources are describing, discussing or analyzing the
information gather from the primary sources. Moreover, while using the secondary sources too, a
writer should be critical and should try to consider different other secondary sources to avoid any
kind of misinformation or biasness. Furthermore, if there are differences in the information
provided by the primary and the secondary sources on a same topic then ambiguity will reign as
