1 ACCG 8048 2021 – Tutorial Assignment Weighting: 20% The tutorial assignment is to be submitted via iLearn by 5pm Monday, 29th March. Deliverables One short answer assignment of 1200 words in total (maximum), excluding any references. Ensure you answer all questions. Referencing Ensure you reference all sources you use in your assignment, including online sources. Direct quotes (i.e. statements not in your own words) should be included in quote marks in addition to being referenced. You should use the APA 7th referencing system, since this is the same system you will need to use for your essays. The Library has set up an institutional account for APA’s ‘Academic Writer’, which includes tools for using this system. There are also numerous web resources on APA referencing, and popular referencing software (e.g. Endnote – free to students) can be set up to automatically insert your references in the correct style. Extensions and Penalties There will be a deduction of 10% of the total awarded mark for each 24-hour period or part thereof that the submission is late (for example, 25 hours late in submission: 20% penalty). This penalty does not apply for cases in which an application for Special Consideration is made and approved. Note that there are limits on how long after the due date students can apply for special consideration, so please submit any applications as soon as possible. BESS can assist with inquiries about the special consideration process. Marking The value of marks per question is provided on the assignment sheet. Marks will be awarded for each question according to how accurately, completely and clearly you answer each question. Questions 1. OVID-19 pandemic has created major disruptions concerning economy and business worldwide. Therefore, one of the major concerns for the business was to run their operations smoothly concerning financial as well as ethical struggles. Financial distress was one of the major concerns for businesses due to reduction of orders, unavailability of workforce, deduced imports and exports along with the health risks associated with spread of COVID-19 virus.
Therefore, worker’s health and safety emerged as a major and critical ethical concern because companies were required to shield their workers from the impacts of pandemic; therefore, they had to pay them even during suspension of their activities. However, many companies had to let go of their workers in order to sustain their presence in the market and to induce cost-reduction. Likewise, another significant ethical issue was to protect the safety and well-being of workers along with reduction in exposure to COVID-19, which was not possible simultaneously.
Ethics emerge from an individual’s self-awareness concerning what is right and what is wrong. However, government enforces laws on their citizens in order to regulate the society. This is evident from the fact where government enforced laws related to lockdown; thus, shutting down business; however, many companies continued to pay their employees in full so that they can sustain their livelihood.
Law can also be presented as codification of ethics, where it defines what individuals ‘have to do’. However, ethics defines all the aspects, which individuals should do. This can be explained with the example that many of the suppliers continued to perform their business activity despite of the guidelines issued by the government. Therefore, ethics as well as legal compromise was intentionally made by those suppliers or organizations.

On the other hand, an opposing view exists, which considers every culture, religion, or diverse views as unique for the followers that is, certain activity or rules might be right for some but wrong for others and vice-versa. Therefore, the concept or definition of ethics is different and subjected to the beliefs of every group (Johansson Dahre, 2017).

It would be essential to consider that the presented event clearly reflects difference in opinion or different ethical approaches. Concerning a Universalist approach, it can be considered that a Universalist would consider the rules and regulations of implied by Qatar to be correct or ethical (Arnett, 2017).
