Amy Norton Scenario 2: A public school system with 65 school bus drivers, each working a 2-hour morning shift and a 2-hour afternoon shift daily. To gather the necessary data for the school bus driver position, I think it would be best to start with surveys. Surveys are a good way to gather feedback on the work directly from those that are performing the duties. Observations would be my next suggestion followed by interviews. I would also recommend using the combination job analysis method and it combines functional job analysis and pulls data from (TI/CODAP) Task Inventory/Comprehensive Occupational Data Analysis Program. This method allows a job analysis person to pull and review data for a job that includes both what the job is and how it is completed. (Morgeson, et.al., 2020) To gain understanding of the work, surveys can be very valuable. The personnel performing the work can provide helpful feedback regarding what the work is, how it is currently being performed and what they have identified and potential process gaps or inefficiencies. Observations are also important as they can provide the leadership team with a firsthand account of what the work is, what challenges the workforce comes across and what is needed to support and streamline the work. Observations also give leaders a view of behavior of the drivers while operating the bus, safety practices, distractions, stressors; etc. Interviewing associates would be another important piece to discuss what data or information was discovered during the surveys and observation processes. The combination job analysis allows us to review the data for the what the work is and how it is completed along with completing the profile of skills needed by a candidate to perform the work. The time to complete the tasks is limited to 4 hours per day, so this analysis will help determine the knowledge and skills needed to properly perform the tasks of the job. The knowledge & skills are rated based on importance which contributes to formulating an appropriate job description and criteria needed for identifying successful candidates. (Morgeson, et.al., 2020) Example job position for this scenario: Associates are expected to safely transport students to and from school daily and abide by all safety regulations including pre & post trip inspections on equipment and reporting any safety or mechanical issues to maintenance right away. Drivers must follow assigned routes and adhere to all posted signs. Requirements include but not limited to current DOT physical including eye and hearing screens, clean driving record, must pass a criminal background check, subject to FMCSA random drug screens, and carry a valid class B CDL required with passenger endorsement. Candidates should have good communication and time management skills and should be able to work independently with limited direct supervision. Shakarah Morton MondayMay 1 at 10:55am Identify the most appropriate tool(s) for gathering the necessary data and information for a credible job analysis based on the scenario you were assigned. Individuals should be interviewed, with particular inquires regarding their work roles and duties. Receive log sheets from staff members detailing each of their duties as well as the amount of time they invested in every duty for a minimum of one work week. Staff should fill out a job analysis assessment. Explain in detail why those tool(s) would be appropriate for gathering the necessary data and information These tools would be very good for gathering necessary data and information. With the initial interview it could allow an open floor to discuss the role and duties. When the potential candidate can get a feel of what the position consist of they understand the expectations needed. I think this could set an individual up for success if they know in depth of the responsibilites. With receiving log sheets it could create organization skills to ensure pay is equal. With job analysis assessments it determines the similarities and variances in work content, as well as the internal fairness and worth of similar jobs. If jobs have equivalent content, then their compensation will most likely be equal. Formulate and describe in your own words what the job position for the employees in your scenario might look like including the knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as tasks and responsibilities. The knowledge of a bus driver consist having a commercial b drivers license and having an educational endorsement to drive the bus. The task consist of adheres to a predetermined bus path, stopping at particular locations to pick up and drop off students. The responsibilities include assess traffic and road conditions, evaluate student behavior, and other elements required to safely transport student passengers from and to school while complying to state laws and school district standards. Workers will be examined on their driving abilities and student managerial abilities on a yearly basis.
