Introduction:
Evolution of health care as one of great concern and high levels of personal delivery has become
the mantra of high levels of positive patient outcomes .Nursing has now become more personal
than professional and nursing care is considered to be one of the most crucial aspects of health
care delivery .
Even though registered and practicing nurses have been effectively trained in bringing out the
best possible treatment and care to patients , there have been cases of negligence in safety
standards leading to patient death or some kind of severe disability accruing to the patient. It is
important to understand and critically reflect on skills that are needed by nurses in discharging
their duties. Most importantly it is very critical to understand the role played by Registered
nurses in quality care and patient outcomes.
Thesis:
Nurses have to exhibit extraordinary care while dealing with patients
Critical Reflection of a real incident:
The death of a senior at a Gold coast nursing home was said to be due to the apparent negligence
of care givers who did not properly monitor the wounds thereby leading to the development of
gangrene to which the senior succumbed. There was lack of commitment from the nursing staff
and apathy towards quality treatment. The hospital authorities agreed that was apathy in treating
the senior citizen. The registered nurses needed to have shown more concern and timely
treatment of wounds.

There was lack of commitment from the care givers and this sparked off mandatory warnings to
aged care facilities where registered nurses need to have been trained on safety and quality of
patient care.
This incident clearly shows that nurses have to be trained on quality...
