Samba Server Introduction:
The Samba server tool that is usually installed on LAN (Local Area Network) works with the
Server Message Block (SMB) Protocol. It is convenient and quiet easy to use samba on Linux
and Windows machine when both the machines running under the same network. When there is
a need for sharing files/printers between Linux and Windows, samba proves as a useful tool and
system.
Samba Architecture:
Samba consists of a server and a client and some tools to test the configuration. The server
consists of two applications called daemons (runs in background)
 smbd core: It provides authentication services and resources.
 nmbd: to describe the services offered by Samba server
smbclient: is an interface used as a client on Linux transferring files and accessing printers.
Smbtar: used to convert files to or from the TAR format under linux.
SMB Server Message Block used as communication protocol between Windows and Linux.
Installation Required Packages:
Three required packages should be installed and it can be installed by type MCC (Mandrake
Control Center) command into the terminal to log in as root user, password for it is “su”, go to
manager then and in Software Installer, selects the three packages
