awareness among people in the target market (Jeofavorito, 2017). Marketing is even critical in


areas such as sports because it help teams to enhance their overall popularity. The present study


outlines how New York Mets which is a baseball team can use the concept of marketing to


interact and communicate with its fans.


New York Mets has is a baseball team of America and it has won the title of World Series


Championship in the year 1969 and 1986. The team is member of National League East Division


and it competes in major baseball leagues at domestic and international level. The season 2018 is


going to be very critical for New York Mets and it is looking forward to interact with its fans in


the best possible manner. However, it can be critically argued that the team is facing different


types of issues linked with marketing and communication (New York Mets, 2018). At present,


New York Mets emphasise on using various tools and techniques of promotion with an objective


to retain the old and attract the new fans. It can be expressed that in its official site, New York


Mets has also integrated a promotional page with the help of which it renders information about


the new and upcoming baseball events.


On the contrary of this, it can be argued that the present strategy employed by New York


Mets cannot be termed as effective regarding carrying out marketing and promotion of the team


to its fans. Inadequate planning and resources are the primary factors which have resulted in


creating obstacles for the team to promote itself for the upcoming season 2018.  To deal with the


identified issue and attain desired objectives of marketing, the brand will be required to identify

marketing strategy. The present condition for New York Mets is mentioned below as:


Competition­  The marketing and promotional strategies of New York Mets have been adversely


affected due to increasing competition in the market (Jeofavorito, 2017). Nowadays, many


baseball teams are competing with each other to secure the position of number one, and at the


same time, aggressive marketing by baseball teams is carried to communicate with fans and


attract them.


Social and cultural aspects ­  At the time of developing and implementing marketing strategies,


it is now required by baseball teams to emphasise on aspects such as social and cultural factors.


New York Mets marketing practices have been criticised because the baseball team has neglected


the social, cultural aspect within the same.


Economy­  Marketing practices and promotional strategies are directly influenced by the


economic conditions prevailing in the marketplace. The aggressive marketing of New York Mets


has been affected negatively because of the changes in disposable income of fans or people


living in the country. The marketing strategies are not able to provide desired outcomes because


low income is restricting the fans to purchase the ticket and watch New York Mets playing.


It can be expressed that New York Mets is required to meet expectations of its fans regarding


winning more matches in every possible manner (New York Mets, 2018). The team members in


New York Mets are now needed to enhance their skill set so that they can give best of their


performance during the baseball match. The selection of New York Mets in season 2018 has


been carried out on the basis of its popularity and talent of team members.

outcomes to the team. To increase its fan base, it is required by New York Mets to revise its


marketing strategies by considering factors such as external environmental elements and


resources needed. Availability of adequate funds will help the team to develop and implement


more useful marketing strategy and attract the desired number of fans for the upcoming season


2018.


Wheel of consumer behaviour and the concept of exposure can be very helpful for the


team as it will support in providing adequate information about the decision­making process of


fans along with the potential factors which affect the process. Wheel of consumer behaviour is


taken into consideration by many marketers as the concept contributes to developing suitable and


practical strategies for marketing and promotion (Mets, 2018). The analysis of consumer


behaviour includes three different aspects which are consumer environment, consumer behaviour


and cognition.


The first component which is affect and cognition is linked with how the people in target


market feels and think. The use of this component will help New York Mets to understand what


kind of factors  will affect the decision making of fans (New York Mets, 2018). The element


which is consumer behaviour will help New York Mets to observe and measure the behaviour the


fans whereas the aspect of consumer environment will assist the team in understanding the4

significant aspects which are the concept of exposure and Wheel of consumer behaviour. It can


be concluded that the two aspects will help in identification of the right fan base, their thinking


and entire process of decision making. Based on the information collected, marketing strategies


can be developed by New York Mets to attract fans.
