Ashford offers many helpful resources, but the two resources I believe will be most beneficial for me are: Waypoint and the writing center. First of all, Waypoint. Waypoint will be useful because it provides feedback on areas such as the misuse of quotation marks, in-text citations and my favorite, the originality check. I have to admit I have had a paper or two in the past where I thought everything had been quoted and given the proper citation only to find out I had missed a few. The originality check allows me to review and change necessary mistakes within my papers; this is invaluable for my progress here at Ashford in providing the best quality research papers possible.
Next, there is the writing center. It is my desire to develop an academic writing style/voice in which my thoughts and ideas flow in a very clear and concise manner. I do consider myself to be a pretty good writer; however, I have had challenges with the passive and active voices when writing. Many teachers would like for their students to write in the active voice (or at least this has been my experience), and sometimes I find myself going back and forth between the two. But with the aid of the writing center it is my goal to become a much better writer, and again, articulate my thoughts clearly. Lastly, with perseverance and determination along with Waypoint and the Writing Center, I will become the clear, concise writer that (up to this point) has only been a dream.

Wednesday Aug 29 at 1:10pm I am sure with resources you feel are easier to identity and use, you will be very successful in improving your academic writing. You are correct, its hard not to write it down as it speaks in your head, the way we talk. I personally get it all out of my head and on paper first (typed out really), then go back and make academic improvements and then editing and proofreading. Over time, I have become more academic from the beginning of a written assignment. Grammerly is my best friend.
