Introduction

Includes and thoroughly develops ALL of the following: (1) Clearly indicates and very briefly describes the theory or theories being reviewed; (2) Provides a rationale for why these theories (many of them widely accepted) need further review; and (3) Includes a clear and concise evaluation of the theory or theories, whether positive, negative, or mixed.

- this should be only a paragraph with a thesis of why these theories need to be evaluated.

Summary-

Write

an objective summary of the theories, brief summary of the theorist's intended purpose for the theory andhow or if the theory has been applied to teaching and learning in K-12, higher education

-This should be a paper and a half

Critique- why these theories need to be modified or improvement

-This should be a page

Conclusion (15 pts)

Clearly restates the writer's/presenter's opinion about the theory/theories and concludes the review. Includes recommendations for how the theories could be improved or more appropriately applied to support teaching and learning.

-This should be a paragraph

If you cannot fit all the work within three pages can you please let me know so I can take additional time to write in more information.

This is a critical review paper. It is most what you think can be improved with the theories.

Cognitivism, Piaget, and Situated Learning
An individual’s cognitive d
evelopment is as important as his/her physical development.
Psychological/mental development is essential for an individual to experience a quality life, and
that is one reason why today the medical world is thoroughly concerned about learning more
about the processes of cognitive development. It is in respect of the cognitive development
process that the name of Piaget, as a theorist, deserves special mention, and it is in relation to the
process of obtaining knowledge about cognitive development that the terms cognitivism and
situated learning must be properly analyzed and explored. It is the intricate relationship between
Piaget’s theory, cognitivism, and situated learning that can throw enough light on the topic of
cognitive development that may eventually make one understand the complicated process in a
simpler manner.
Cognitivism, as a theory, emerged as a response to the theory of behaviorism that was
long used to interpret an individual’s way of mental growth and development. Cognitivism
should be considered as a revolution in the field of psychological studies that replaced
behaviorism in the 1960s (Davey, 2015). Cognitivism “focuses on the inner mental activities –
opening the “blackbox” of the human mind is valuable and necessary for understanding how
people learn. Mental processes such as thinking, memory, knowing, and problem-solving need to
be explored” (Davey, 2015). Though cognitivism emerged as a replacement to behaviorism; just
like the behaviorist psychologists the cognitivists believed that every study regarding learning
should be objective in nature and that empirical research should form the basis of every learning
theory (Kristinsdottir, 2008). With the evolution of the cognitivist model, today, almost every
conitivist psychologists believe that (through the observation of different responses made by
different individuals to different stimuli), “they can draw inferences about the nature of the

internal cognitive processes that produce those responses” (Kristinsdottir, 2008). Moreover, it is
