Writing Assignment - Investigative Report Directions: You need to complete an investigative report that focuses on your topic on a national level. You are going to show the following in your report: · Background information that sets the current scene about your topic in the U.S. - You may offer some history and then move your audience into current trends about your topic. Remember, your audience is on a college level. However, you may need to define certain terms (not common ones), explain jargon related to the topic, etc. · Up-to-date facts and varying opinions that show you have completed an in-depth study about your topic on the national level. - Keep in mind that this is not an argument; you are not taking a stand on a certain side of your topic. You are offering a variety of opinions and facts that show you completed an in-depth study, not a "surface" skim, of the topic. · You understand your college-level audience and write to them in an objective, high style using clear, concise language - Again, this is an objective, formal report on the topic (not a personal, informal argument). You want to show that you have progressed in your writing from the first and second assignments. · You understand how to properly create a full citation and in-text citation using APA guidelines. To complete the assignment: · Write a four-page investigative report on your topic on the national level (this does not include your Reference page) · Use APA citation - Please note you are not required to write an abstract or use headings for this paper; however, you will be expected to follow APA 7 style format and citation guidelines. · Incorporate and properly cite at least 5 sources - 2 of them MUST be new sources (not used for the 10 Sources or Annotated Bibliography) · Font - Times New Roman · Font Size - 12 point · Maintain a formal tone appropriate to academic writing. · Spell out contractions in accordance with formal academic writing guidelines. · Do not use abbreviations in accordance with formal academic writing guidelines. Note: If you need to use an acronym(s), spell out the name on first use with the acronym in parentheses beside the name. Then, you may refer to the acronym throughout the remainder of the paper. · Use third person point of view. Do not use first or second person point of view. Again, this maintains an objective viewpoint and tone and maintains formal academic guidelines. Note: · Refer to the sample student paper for an example. · Please note we will be using the new updated version of APA 7th edition, which you will be studying in next week's folder. · The student paper reflects the APA 7th edition, and will offer you a better understanding of the writing style being used for investigative report, which is strictly reporting the facts without the use of persuasion. Topic is cure for cancer · You may chose the other 2 sources since I cannot use my previous sources · Sources and writing must be high quality and scholarly, as well as on a national level 1.
