The issue of diversity in the workplace is not a new one, as throughout the ages it is seen that there has been various types of inequality faced by people in the spectrum of a working environment on the basis of their age, racial background, gender, religion and sexual orientation. However, many studies have shown evidence to the fact that the more diverse workforce is, there are more chances of success. Thus organizations need to put more emphasis into diversifying the workforce and make sure that they are all treated equally without partiality or discrimination.
In 1964, the inauguration(,2011) of the Civil Rights Act dealt a crucial blow to the discrimination based on race and sex which was still pertinent in that time as it was deemed illegal. President Truman in 1948, made discrimination based on race, religion, color illegal in the armed forces of the United States with the help of Executive Order 9981.
