Step Three: Once you have chosen one topic from the list above. Read the extra information concerning that topic in the pages below. Step four: Complete a problem definition table based on your one chosen topic. Step Five: Write a literature review for your research proposal. Information about the different topics: INSTRUCTIONS: choose ONE topic to write about from the following options: Choice One: 4-day working week: This example is a basic research example – there is no specific business to write about. Then decide what you want your decision statement, research objectives and research question to be. Choice three: Splendour in the grass 2022 This is a basic topic concerning festival organisation. Splendour in the grass 2022 was reportedly plagued by poor transport organisation, bad weather, day one was cancelled, camp sites flooded, health and safety issues, and several other problems. The following news article is provided to get you started with the topic: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/jul/25/splendour-in-the-grass-2022-bus-chaos-noxious-mud-and-public-urination-at-an-unbelievably-awful-time Please talk to your workshop facilitator or message us to discuss your ideas for completing the business problem definition table, your research question, and structure of your literature review. When writing about this topic you must use the Theory of Planned Behaviour to help explain the topic. Information about the theories Since the first week of this course, we have been learning about theory and how it can be used to understand workplace/life phenomenon. This was explained in more depth in the week 3 pre-workshop recording. Each of the four topics above uses a specific theory. When you choose the one topic it tells you which theory you must use. Please do not write about any other theory than the one listed (you will waste word count). Do not include more than one theory and do not choose a different theory other than what is listed. What is Job Demand Resource theory? This theory was introduced in the week two workshop (slide 21-22) where the workshop facilitator (or recording) would have introduced and discussed how the theory can be applied to an example. The course coordinator also spoke about the theory in the pre-workshop recording and content of week 3 (slide 30-40). It was again spoken about in the workshop in week 3 (slides 31-33). Your workshop facilitator/the workshop recordings would have given examples of how the theory could be applied to the topic. There are a lot of propositions in JD-R theory you only need to cover proposition one and proposition two as these are the main explanations of the theory. Do not attempt to write about all eight propositions as you will not have enough word count. On Canvas there is a PDF file that is a starting resource for you to read about the theory. Look for the file named “Baker & Demerouti (2017)”. APA reference: Bakker, A. B., & Demerouti, E. (2017). Job demands–resources theory: Taking stock and looking forward. What is the Theory of Planned Behaviour? This theory was introduced in the week one workshop (slide 61-62). In the workshop there was an activity concerning learning the theory and a discussion of how it can be applied to other behaviours. It was again spoken about in the workshop in week 3 (slides 31-33). Your workshop facilitator would have given examples of how the theory could be applied to the topic. On Canvas there is a PDF file that is a starting resource for you to read about the theory. Look for the file named “Bosnjak et al (2020)”. APA reference: Bosnjak M, Ajzen I, Schmidt P. (2020). The Theory of Planned Behavior: Selected Recent Advances and Applications. You will need to find more articles concerning the theory as you must explain the theory and link it to your chosen topic. How do I write the literature review? First make sure you understand what a literature review is. Check the week 3 content. What is a literature review? “A good literature review summarises, analyses, evaluates, and synthesises the relevant literature within a particular field of research. It shows how knowledge has evolved within the field, highlighting what has already been done, what is generally accepted, what is emerging and what is the current state of thinking on the topic. Additionally, literature reviews identify the gaps in the current knowledge - that is under-researched areas. To review the literature means to be able to identify: · what has been established, discredited, and accepted in your field of research · areas of controversy or conflict among different schools of thought · problems or issues that remain unsolved · emerging trends and new approaches · how your research extends, builds upon, and/or departs from previous research. A review of literature presents much more than a summary of relevant sources. The act of reviewing involves evaluating individual sources as well as synthesising these sources in order to develop your own research project. A literature review functions as a tool to: · provide a background to your work by summarising the previously published work on your topic · classify the research into different categories and demonstrate how the research in a particular area has changed over time by indicating historical background if applicable (early research findings in an area) as well as explaining recent developments in an area · clarify areas of controversy and agreement between experts in the area as well as identify dominant views · evaluate the previous research and identify gaps (i.e., unexplored, or under-researched areas) · help justify your research by indicating how it is different from other works in the same area” (Monash University, 2022, page 1) Use this link to learn more about what a literature review is and how to write one: Source: https://www.monash.edu/learnhq/write-like-a-pro/how-to-write.../literature-review Simple steps to write a literature review: First you need to identify the key words and concepts from your chosen topic. You will use these to conduct your literature search through the USC library website and/or google scholar. Locate many journal articles – you will need to read more than what you might write with. At a minimum you must write using 6 academic journal articles to pass. Use bullet points to create the structure of your review and then use paragraph structure to write the paragraph – see week 3 content. 03 The Report Format · Cover page/Title Page – Name, student number, tutor name/day/time, word count · Table of contents (should also include a list of figures / tables if used) · Introduce the situation (Estimated: 100-120 words) · Explain the situation and what the problem is. Then introduce and explain the problem definition table you have created. · The table must include symptoms, likely problem(s), decision statement, research objectives, and a research question. · Overview of literature
