Assessment activities are an important part of any training program. They provide participants the opportunity to confirm their knowledge via written responses, by presenting information gathered from the workplace and by demonstrating their practical skills to their Assessor. They also provide valuable feedback that participants can discuss further with their trainer. How are assessments conducted? Each module/cluster uses a variety of tools to assess participants. These may include any or all of the following: Written/Verbal Questions Observation/Demonstration Scenario/role Play Project Portfolio Supervisor Interview Please read the following section of this assessment booklet carefully before commencing the assessment tasks. ‘ The following table displays the elements and performance criteria that participants need to be able to satisfactorily demonstrate in order to be deemed competent for the unit: CHCEC018 - Nurture creativity in children Element Performance Criteria 1. Foster creativity through the physical environment 1.1 Select and promote the use of a range of open-ended, natural and found materials and make them available to children 1.2 Choose and promote the use of a range of materials to encourage creative expression and make them accessible to children 1.3 Introduce children to a range of examples of creative expression in art, architecture, inventions, music and dance, and promote the use of creative expression 2. Foster creativity through the human environment 2.1 Support children to feel a sense of ownership and responsibility for equipment and materials 2.2 Role-model creativity by improvising with equipment and materials 2.3 Encourage children to pursue their own original ideas, interpretations and expressions 2.4 Invite children to ask questions and assist them to find their own answers 2.5 Engage children in talking about their creations and ask them open-ended questions 2.6 Share enthusiasm for creative work with children 2.7 Encourage children to respect and appreciate the creative effort of their peers You must satisfactorily complete all of the assessments included in this booklet in order to be deemed Competent for this unit. Foster creativity through a learning framework 3.1 Allow time for children to be creative and encourage efforts to extend over days or weeks 3.2 Teach children techniques when using materials and equipment 3.3 Plan and create opportunities for children to collaborate creatively with each other 3.4 Involve children in critical reflection and solving real problems 3.5 Display children’s work in meaningful ways 3.6 Design a flexible framework that can respond to children’s interests as they arise 4. Provide experiences 4.1 Identify and provide a range of experiences used to nurture creativity 4.2 Provide opportunities for children to practice developing skills in music, movement, construction, visual art and dramatic play in both indoor and outdoor environments 5. Evaluate experiences 5.1 Use a range of methods to evaluate children’s learning from the implemented creative experiences 5.2 Reflect on the evaluations and make ongoing modifications to the curriculum to stimulate interest and involvement in creative activities CHCECE018 - Participant Assessment Booklet ACCCO V 1.1 © Australian Child Care Career Options Page 4 of 19 August 2015 CHCECE018 - Nurture creativity in children The evidence you submit will be assessed and you will be given written and verbal feedback. Each individual assessment task will be marked as either Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory. A mark of Competent or Not Yet Competent will be given for the whole unit of competency. If you are assessed as Not Yet Competent, you will be given some suggestions for improvement and asked to resubmit your material and/or redo your assessment. What is involved in the assessment process? There are four (4) assessment items within this booklet. You must complete a minimum of three (3) assessment items in order to be deemed competent for the unit. Each assessment item will have detailed instructions on how to complete it successfully. Your Trainer will indicate to you the assessment items that need to be completed. The Four (4) assessments are as follows: Part A: Written/Verbal Questions Part B: Case Study Part C: Workplace Observation Part D: Supervisor’s Interview Report Once completed, the ACCCO Assessor may wish to discuss your answers with you. You may be required to undertake further assessment if the assessor considers more evidence is required to prove your competence. [email protected] Access and Equity Reasonable adjustments can be made to ensure equity in assessment for people with disabilities or other needs. Adjustments include any changes to the assessment process or context that meet the individual needs of a person but do not change competency outcomes. If you believe that you have not been given appropriate access or treatment contact the ACCCO Training Manager. If you would like to discuss adjustments or individual requirements contact your Trainer and/or Assessor. What happens if you don’t agree with the assessment result? If you do not think the assessment process is valid, or disagree with the decision once it is made, or believe that you have been treated unfairly, you can lodge an appeal. The first step is to discuss the matter with the Assessor who marked your assessment. If you still do not agree with the assessment, you may request a re-assessment. You may also request that a different assessor assess your evidence. If you remain dissatisfied after the re-assessment, you should contact the Training Manager at ACCCO. Part A - requires a written answer to each question. Submit to your Assessor on the date specified. Part B - is a case study that requires written responses that should be entered in the spaces provided within the Participant Assessment Booklet. Part C - is a Workplace Observation Checklist requiring a demonstration that shows that you have the skills, knowledge and understanding to do a job task whilst in the workplace. Your assessor may organise a simulated environment to contact this assessment. Part D - is a Supervisor checklist that your Assessor will work through with your workplace Supervisor. Your assessor may determine that additional training may be required depending on the responses of your supervisor. If at any point you have a question please feel free to contact your Trainer and Assessor. If you are not satisfied with the outcome or the assessment process you have undertaken you may appeal your results. Details of the appeals process are contained in your Participant Handbook.
