I have submitted my assignment.

Suitable topics to cover include: · Mineral exploration (general or specific minerals); · Coral reefs; · Topography; · Bathymetry; · Habitat mapping; · Geophysical properties; · Vegetation structure and physiology; · Agricultural monitoring; · Salinity mapping; · River/lake/ocean water quality; · Atmospheric aerosols; · Sea surface temperature fire (fuel load, active fires, fire history); · Snow and ice properties; · Ice-sheets/bergs; · Clouds; · Tropical cyclones; and · Floods. The following is a suggested structure and an outline of the Grading Criteria to be used: · Introduction and background to your application area · Define the application area that you will review · Explain why this application needs to use remote sensing · Identify the spatial and temporal scales of information required from remote sensing in your application area · Provide a brief overview of how remote sensing is used in your application area as a means to outline the structure of the paper · A review of the current approaches/applications in your application area from three peer-reviewed articles in remote sensing journals. The review can be structured either by individual article (title, data used, processing technique applied, and level of success) or in a more synthetic manner under the following headings: common applications; data sets used; processing techniques; limitations; and suggested direction for future work. Please use appropriate scientific journals, such as: Remote Sensing, Remote Sensing of Environment, International Journals of Remote Sensing etc. Please do not select papers that appear to be overly complex and that you are not able to follow. We do not expect detailed critiques, but do expect you to be able to summarise the data sets and approaches they have used. References: provide a correctly structured reference list for all of the literature cited in your report (books, journal articles, conference papers, reports and web sites). CRITERIA Items to include in assignment to meet criteria Possible Marks 1. Introduction and background to your application area · Define the application area that you will be review (5 marks) · Explain why this application needs to use remote sensing (5 marks) · Identify the spatial and temporal scales of information required from remote sensing in your application area (5 marks) · A brief overview of how remote sensing is used in your application area as a means to outline the structure of the paper (5 marks) 20 2. Structure, setup and language · Following recommended structure (5 marks). · Use of proper academic and remote sensing technical language (10 marks) · Inclusion of basic literature review elements, i.e. page numbers, appropriate headings, figure and table captions, summary section, no spelling errors, no punctuation errors (5 marks). 20 3. A review of the current approaches in your application area · Clearly written review section using relevant articles on remote sensing applied to your selected application area (10 marks). · The review can be structured either by individual article (title, data set used (10 marks), processing technique applied (10 marks), level of success (10 marks), main findings (10 marks) and suggested direction for future work (10 marks)) or in a more synthetic manner under the following headings: data sets used (10 marks); processing techniques applied (10 marks); level of success (10 marks); main findings (10 marks) and suggested direction for future work (10 marks). GEOM2000 students must use 2-4 articles GEOM7000 students must use 5-10 articles. 60 TOTAL 100 marks (scaled to allocated %)
