I have overheard teachers discussing this scenario or similar ones where the IEP team that needs to write the IEP did not do the evaluation. It sounds like it is challenging. I think some helpful ideas that I have seen are to get clarification from the team who did the evaluation or the teacher who has previously worked with the child on any areas that are unclear. If this is not possible, the IEP should be written to the best of the teacher’s knowledge and can be adjusted as necessary at the next IEP meeting, or if that is too long or the discrepancy is too large, amendments can be made with parental consent. This requires parental consent and a specific form. Modifications cannot be mad without parental consent. If parental consent is given, a full IEP meeting does not need to be called. “(i) In making changes to a child’s IEP after the annual IEP Team meeting for a school year, the parent of a child with a disability and the public agency may agree not to convene an IEP Team meeting for the purposes of making those changes, and instead may develop a written document to amend or modify the child’s current IEP. comment as you see fit. min 40 words
