Culture is a set knowledge and characteristic of a particular society of people, surrounding with language, religion, food, clothing, music, arts and social practice. As global business continues, the needs for understanding cultural norms and social values have become a growing core business issue for the industry to address. Understanding cross-national culture could help leader, employees and organisation to do business internationally. Cultural differences have a significant and broad impact on companies’ decisions and practices in international trade. However, this assignment will analyse the socio-culture environment influencing business management in India. To be successful in India as foreign investors should be mindful of local culture, customs and history.

The Republic of India, located in southern Asia. Its shared border with seven countries China, Pakistan, Bhutan, Myanmar (Burma), Afghanistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. There is the world highest mountain range, rise in the north of the country called Himalayas (India location Map 2020).
The capital city is New Delhi the most crowded and cosmopolitan city in the world as well as in Mumbai (Bombay), Kolkata (Calcutta). Also, places represent the world fastest growing technologies and software located in Bengaluru (Bangalore), Chennai (Madras) and Hyderabad.
The government is a constitutional republic the indicates population with multi-ethnic group and diverse languages. With roughly one to the sixth of the world’s overall population, India is the second-most crowded country after China.
India is a very spiritual country. There is no national religion, but more than 80% of populations are Hindu. About 13% are Muslim. Other religions discovered in India, which include Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism.
India is a prosperous, economically and culturally rich country, trading in spices or cotton textiles in European countries before the British people came in and took control of every industry. In virtually every area of social life, India offers unprecedented variety. .Ethnic, linguistic, regional, economic, and religious and caste groups have a diversity that crosses Indian society with enormous urban-rural variations and gender disparities. Particularly important are differences between Northern and southern region, especially in kinship and marriage systems. In some respects, Indian culture has many facets — much more like a region so complex as Europe than any other nation state — these are perhaps unknown in any other great civilisation in the world. Adding additional variation to Indian contemporary culture easily affects different regions and socio-economic classes. However, the dynamics of Indian life promote social peace and order through generally recognised cultural themes.
Greeting and communicating with local Indian
Communication is the signification tool within the organisation. Effective business communication can help employees and management create a positive image and achieve the business goal. In India, there are diverse cultures and languages but majority of them speak Hindi and English as official language. Indian people have friendliness culture with communicating; they love to talk and asking so many questions about family, personal life that indicate the love and care to their friends and family. In addition, in Indian community there are many conversations that Indians find interesting to communicate such as food (vegetarian), films, sports, politics and economic performance. Also, when people meet for social interactions they greet people with a 'Namaste' (hands pressed together at chest level as if in prayer). You will be appreciated for using the Indian style of greeting. This could be the starting point to engaging the communication and building friendship with local people.
Moreover, in business communication, Cultural Atlas, 2020 mentioned that Indian tend to be polite and indirect communication, especially when they are discussing those they are not close-to. Due-to traditional way of practice, they usually exchange opinions or point of view through negotiation to avoid conflict or confrontation. For example, Indian may struggle to say “no”, as it can convey a rude message. Preferably, they will state like “we will see”, “yes, but it may be difficult”, or “I will try.” Sometimes they just keep quite rather than say “no” directly. As a result, this can be the basic communicating as foreign investor need to be aware and respect of such differences of communicate style.
