Working With Children Check A Working With Children Check is a prerequisite for anyone in child-related work. The result of a Working With Children Check is a clearance to work with children. As a student it is your responsibility to obtain a clearance before you begin your work placement. This is a requirement across Australia, please see link below to find out how you can apply in your state. Regulated Workplace In this context, workplace is a regulated education and care service as defined as any service providing education and care to children nought to 5 years of age that is licensed or approved under state or territory legislation. This would include: long day care, family day care, occasional care and mobile services (which are typically regulated under state or territory specific legislation). In the Workplace You will record required hours completed and gather evidence of your time at the Work Placement. You may complete this placement in more than one facility to enable completion of all assessment requirements of their program. Work placement is generally unpaid, however if you are already working in the industry and your supervisor is happy to take on the role of work placement supervisor at the same time, then you should make arrangements with the supervisor. Under this program, we do not actively find Workplace Experience placements for our students; students are encouraged to use their initiative to source and arrange their own placements. It is beneficial for you to source your own work placement, as it will assist establishing networks in the industry. It will also be a suitable locality and suit your own personal career aspirations. Remember you are sourcing a placement that will: treat you as a voluntary employee rather than a visitor inform other team members of the nature of a work placement and encourage them to offer mentoring and support appoint a supervisor (qualified staff member working in the same room as you) verify that you have completed tasks in the workplace as laid out in your manual provide workplace training, coaching and mentoring provide time for on-the-job study including the completion of set workplace assessment tasks provide written constructive feedback in the mentor/supervisor review © Australian College Pty Ltd 5 (CHC50113) Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care Professional Development https://www.nationalcrimecheck.com.au/resources/working_with_children_checks_in_australia How to find a Work Placement Step 1 Pick a location that suits your travel /time constraints on your work placement.
