It also allows students to draw conclusions that impact on various stakeholders and to communicate their findings in a professional manner. This assessment contributes to learning outcomes a, b, c and d. Topic: Analysis of a current ethical problem relating to the business environment and identification of a mitigation strategy. Task details: The individual assessment requires students to provide responses to short answer questions relating to the practical application of business ethics and sustainability Students will have to do research to support the discussion, recommendations and conclusion with suitable and relevant references. A minimum of 8 peer-reviewed academic journal articles. Journals with a focus on business ethics and sustainability are highly recommended and can be accessed via the journal databases provided by the KOI library. . References that are unacceptable include: online encyclopedia such as Wikipedia, general websites, blogs, newspapers and magazines. Please check with your tutor or the librarian if unsure about the validity of sources identified. Students seeking a higher grade should support present a higher number of references to support the discussion, recommendations and conclusion. The essay should be written in formal academic narrative style. Referencing should be appropriately done. The Harvard Anglia type is preferred and bullet points or casual language should not be used. Introduction
Ethical issues often appear as moral conflicts in business platforms, whether thr
ough business agreements or establishing fresh business ideas. Outside of everyday issues regarding sales and productions, ethical issues in a business cannot be neglected and arise a difficult challenge for any business owner. In other words, it is an occasion where a moral standard is questioned. Ethical issues can be imprinted as violating of moral values and social norms. As the company environment is becoming complex in the 21st century, companies of every size face a multitude of ethical issues like honesty, integrity, professional behavior and environmental issues. However, issues that are more complex include gender discrimination and harassment in the workplace. It was found from a 2009 National Business Ethics survey, that numerous of employees observed and faced ethical misconduct incorporated abusive behavior, discrimination, improper hiring practices and company resource abuse. In accordance to the Global Business Ethics survey of 2018, it was found that most of the employees believe that their company has a toxic working culture, which endorses ethical misconducts and very less initiatives are taken to reduce the ethical misconducts.
Gender Discrimination in Workplaces
Gender discrimination in a human resource context refers natural and obvious distinction between the male and female species of humanity. A man and a woman complement each other in the formation of a family; so do men and women work together to make a nation capable of standing on its leg. However, physically, and often mentally, there is a dissimilitude between the two genders, and it has led to women being regarded as subordinate to men, physically and cerebrally. As opined by Triana et al. (2019), gender inequality in a workplace occurs when an employee is treated differently, unfairly because of their gender. It has been over a century, but negative gender stereotypes are still an issue that plagues the careers of many women. Conversely there are many cases, which point towards reverse discrimination, with men complaining that the women in their firm receive greater favors and are treated more leniently-a phenomenon perhaps in line with their stereotypical role as the "fairer sex".
Forms of Gender Discrimination in Workplaces
In a TNS Research survey, 68% of women responded that gender discrimination is quite customary in the workplace. As opined by Dunham (2017), the prominent form of gender inequality is paying less to women employees and giving them less scope of promotions. Even if a woman's qualification, skill and experience are adequate, a man gets a lucrative and important designation in the administration. Under federal law, if a woman performs as efficiently as men perform and achieves the same organizational targets and spends the exact allotted hours, she is entitled to be given as much salary and incentives as a man will be given within the company.
