COMM_Assignment4_Presentation 2 COMM1016 PresentationCritique–PPTslidestoupload Value: 20% Dates: UploadWeek12(Mondayat4:00pm) Format: Complete9-12PowerPointslides,with1researchsourceandeffective visuals For this presentation assignment, you will draw on the information reviewed in the PPT available on Verbal Communication in the Week 11/12 learning folder. Review the communication process, considering audience, purpose, message/content, style and design (including verbal and nonverbal relay of information), organization, and presentation format. GettingStarted: Choose an existing presentation/verbal message to evaluate/critique (eg: an interview, a TedTalk, a political leader in a news conference or debate, a public service announcement, a demonstration on how to complete a task, or a speech). It does not have to be famous, but it does need to be available (as you must provide a link to it). Do not search for a weak or a successful presentation; instead, review a few to find one of particular interest to you. In selecting a presentation, make sure it meets the following: • It is a verbal message of some type – eg: a briefing, a sales pitch, or a commentary. • It is designed for a given audience with a clear message that you can evaluate. • DO NOT select a classroom lecture or something that is not recorded or available for viewing. For this assignment, you will assess its overall success and weaknesses in terms of the communication process. Evaluate the following communication considerations, referencing the PPT in this week’s folder: • Audience • Purpose • Message/Content • Style and Design • Organization • Format In addition, throughout your critique, assess the credibility of the speaker. Is the speaker credible for the message provided? Does the speaker use solid research and evidence? Is the message fair and reasonable? Is there logic in the way the presentation is organized? Does the speaker relate well to the audience, using an appropriate style and tone? These questions can be addressed separately (on a PPT slide), or you can infuse answers with the communication consideration points above. COMM1016 AdditionalRequirements 1. Visuals Review suggestions and ideas related to the use of visuals in communication (Week 10). Add at least 3 appropriate and thoughtful visuals to your own PPT slides. You can add more, if appropriate. 2. Conduct research on what makes an effective presentation. Take at least one suggested approach and use it to assess the verbal message you have selected for review. Be sure to include an in-text citation at the bottom of the slide where it is used, and provide a slide at the end of your presentation with full APA reference details. Steps-summarized 1. Select a verbal message and view it, paying attention to the communication considerations noted above. 2. Assess the communication considerations: a. Create a PPT slide to evaluate each of the communication process considerations we have discussed throughout the semester (purpose, audience, message/content, style and design, organization, and format). Refer to the PPT posted in the Week 11/12 learning folder for specific questions to address in your critique. 3. Focus on what worked well and what could be done to improve the piece you chose to assess. Include your critique, in point form, on PPT slides. 4. Provide a link to the verbal message you selected on your INTRODUCTION slide. 5. Use ONE piece of research where you cite what others recommend with regard to any of the communication considerations. Include a slide at the end with research in APA format. 6. Include at least 3 visuals where you clearly see the value of representing content visually in your own PPT. OrganizingYourPresentation: ✓ Introduce (what you chose, why, your overall approach + content; include a link to the verbal message selected) ✓ Background if necessary ✓ Slides for each communication consideration noted above o Provide specific evidence to support your analysis ✓ Conclude ✓ APA Reference slide Presentation Critique – PPT slides to upload Value: 20% Dates: Upload Week 12 (Monday at 4:00 pm) Format: Complete 9-12 PowerPoint slides, with 1 research source and effective visuals Getting Started: Additional Requirements Steps - summarized Organizing Your Presentation:
