blamed antivaccine brigade to be responsible of existence of measles till date. Cooper’s make his argument using devices such as ethos, logos and pathos. He used the rhetorical language and careful choice of words to argue in every paragraph with conviction that this topic is important and must be took in consideration.
The tone of the article is strictly concerned about conspiracy theories, its impact on people and herd nature of the human beings “one does and other follows”. Cooper starts his discussion with conspiracy of the past, which prevents sufficient number of parents preventing their children from taking MMR vaccine. Using the famous example of Dr. Andrew Wakefield is a use of ethos to persuade audience about the seriousness of the issue. Cooper reference about adults suffering from measles due to prevention of vaccine twenty years ago implied an appeal to emotion or pathos. His article consists of data and statistics that implied logic or logos.
Cooper had given the thorough and recent data of cases of measles registered in all over Europe. It also gives the details of specific countries, which are mostly affected. The detailed data assured that he has done proper research on his part become giving only conclusion or making any perception about the topic. Since the data had been taken from health protection surveillance centre, it provides credibility to the data and the source. First paragraph of Cooper set the theme “concern about the issue”. Second paragraph had given proof for the concern.
Cooper acknowledges that two shots of MMR vaccines protect people from the virus. He was concerned about the lethal impact of the deadly virus on one hand and assured that taking vaccine in adulthood is also possible and the outcome of the vaccine will be similar to the childhood.
