1. What is the advantage of cross cultural communication (CCC) for business?
In this highly connected world, there has been increase in requirement of understanding different cultures which are prominent globally. This subsequently brings the requirement of cross-cultural communication for organizations. This is part of characterization of business in the way how one communicates with other cultures. The primary reasons of
rise in increase of cross cultural communication has been interconnectedness that has happened because of technological advancements using tools like internet. Many teams work together sitting at remote locations belonging to different culture and have given good results because of good understanding between each other. This has now become inevitable for businesses to get acquainted with different style of working of people who come from different cultures. The question here arises that why there is need of people from different culture working together. The primary objective here is get the best talent from around the world which can result in producing better outputs. Another factor that can be cited for teams comprising of people with multi-cultural background is high rate of mobility of people traveling from one part of world to another. People from various origins come to cities which have better career opportunities. This has tremendously helped businesses in dealing with clients who belong from similar origin. This is because better understanding exist and the requirements of clients are well understood. (Padhi,2015)

The possibility of misunderstanding between 2 individuals exist even when both of them speaks the same language. This is because of difference that may exist in their cultural background. Hence, it becomes necessary for managers and organization to understand how globalization is impacting their business. This becomes useful for gaining competitive advantage if the company is able to take advantage of the cross-cultural knowledge. The use of technology can help in overcoming the barriers that arises due to cross cultural communication. Various companies are working on translation technology that also explains the context. Innovative solutions can be extracted by utilizing individual differences. Workshops to train people can be conducted together helps in understanding each other culture and get a broader perspective. Training sessions that make people aware about different cultures and provide knowledge about customs that are followed helps in better cross culture communication. Activities that explain the importance of communication and dependency of business on it will help employees understand the criticality of it. These activities can help in solving conflicts that results due to cultural misunderstandings. Getting aware about your own culture and peer culture helps in developing understanding between each other. (Riege,2005)
3. What does the author mean by ‘low context’ and ‘high context’ cultures? Is Australia low or high context?
The low context and high context here implies the communication contexts which set preferences for people for messages on the basis of classification of culture. According to the author, societies which are collectivist in nature are generally considered high context communication culture. The basic meaning of words used or the connotation related to that word can be different and interpreted in different manner. This is because of different context that are associated with it. Also, this happens due to associated body language with the words which changes the meaning according to the reaction of person. The case for low context communication is quite different. In this type of culture, the expression of idea is more direct and frank environment exist for assessing the situations. There are no hidden meanings in the sentences and people may be blunt while making comments. This kind of method has been adopted by many MNCs to save time in operations. Australia is low context culture because of following tendencies:
a. Association: Decentralized social structure exists in Australia. The duration of relationship is generally short.
b. Interactions: Explicit way of verbal communication exist between people.
