I have a partially finished essay that needs some changes.This Mid-term exam will cover analysis of policy using the Blau lenses of Ideology, Economics, Politics, Social Movements and History.
You will choose two of the three policies available to analyze.
Your analysis must use all five of the lenses. You will need to tie lecture and textbook material to your analysis. You will be graded on your ability to synthesize the analysis of each of the bill policies (separately) and use terminology from the text and lecture. I need to know, upon reading your analysis, that you understand the following:
1. What ideology or ideologies are supportive of the policy? Which are opposed? Remember that there can be parts of policies which align with one or more ideologies and parts that are in contradiction to ideologies.
2. What political party or parties are supportive or opposed? What would the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government have to say or do with the policy? Is this a local, state or federal policy?
3. What are the economic implications? What micro economics are involved? What macro economics are involved? Who will benefit economically? Who will be harmed?
4. Is there a social movement you can identify which would support or oppose the policy? If there is, would you be a part of the social movement? If there is not, what would a social movement you started look like? Who would be a part of the social movement (what groups)? Who would be opposed?
5. Of the seven patterns of history, which two or more can you identify regarding this policy? Remember you can change the words Blau uses (from poverty to women, etc.) to make the pattern fit.
