Running Head: MISLEADING NEWS2 MISLEADING NEWS2 Misleading News Information Valerie McDaniel Columbia Southern University Introduction Misleading news information is a detailed narrative invents to influence one point of view and that is not based on the fact; it is use to disguise people from real motive, it appeared as news. Fake News works like rumours whereas Alternative facts are just an unfortunate choice of words. Fake news is just juicy information that people want to see on their TV screens. It does not show the real issues in the country. This misleading information is just error news with some fact but no prove to know whether it is true or not. For Example: - if news is showing some show regarding the tax- saving or economic debate, people hardly take interest in it on the other side if new show some misleading information on sensitive topic that will definitely turns in the attention of the target audience. It depends upon how people define misleading information some believed that it depends upon the publication house because they are responsible to frame the news in the newspaper and sometimes it is just incomplete. Controversy like, when Van Jones reporter of CNN, taking out skin colour factor against black president as a deciding point over winning of election. The media industry provides fair and true piece of information and that with evidence but People are being fool because our news channel and our publication house show that piece of information (false news) in such way to get the attention of the public. That is why people get this misleading information from the news channel and make our opinions. The platform of media is use to make huge difference in the society it should be used wisely, not to give communal hatred messages, biased information and misinformation. Media act as a mediator between people and government, company, individual. Literature Review Producers of fake news are media houses; firstly, they make no efforts to crosscheck the fact of the news, so that the underlying facts and information does not come up. Secondly, they do not believe in building long-term goodwill for quality, instead they just try to earn short-term profits from trendy and sensitive topics of public. In this false news model also consumers divided into two types- one who listen to that matter of information only which they want to listen and stick to that fact only (majorly in case of political views or religion). In addition, other type of consumer who see or read the information, evaluated it, search more about it and then draw his or her own opinion regarding the fact. Unfortunately, there are more consumers like prior one, who will consume news only to maximize their own expected utility. The reason behind why people get so influence by fake news is that they literally don’t know about the politics and are unaware about how it works so, it is easy to manipulate those people (Allcott 2017). Fake news spread massively, every other person expose to conspiracy, click-bait headlines, satire, fabricated reports and rumours. The website and sources use to spread fake news earn big money but sometimes fake news have positive few results like sometimes fake news that recession will come next year can make today’s employee to save money for future or do only necessary expenditure it help to create habit of savings in employee (Shu 2017). We cannot stop fake news but surely, we can detect it. Most of the people spend their 60 percent of the leisure time on social media as the source of information, as there is no regulation on social media this platform use to deceit people and spread fake news. Whereas there are some app and web pages evolved that can detect the authenticity of the information ( Shao 2017) . High valuation of media consumption rate and low faith in media institution create an effective environment for quick viral spread if new, and that can be planned or unplanned. What we require for both manufacturer of news and public is an artificial tool that can save time and hard work/efforts by filtering all false and inaccurate news (Rubin 2016). Real news report tends to have neutral voice tone and authentic and verified source of information. They will provide proper citing information, link and available report for all reader’s further consideration. Whereas, report citing anonymous sources are not always fake or false information, but they have collaboration via other source of information. Their writings are not experimental, it is marked with sensational claims, strong language and opinion words. It is not always the media, which is coating the false information to the public, but many a times it is public. People are moulding their media consumption around their own viewpoint these days. Media industry and social media patterns are not only culprits. People creating their own news and false information, social media is just a platform for it. It is just aggravates the process of spread. Secondly is experts will show public the facts, public will no long agree with it this is ugly side but it is true. People have no interest in rational arguments but in emotional pleading, and that is the main reason real issues are not coming to the public (Tandoc 2018). Conclusion Fake news closely related to like virus. It is and always will be present in the society and continually mutating as it goes to one person to other. Facts and data is important for the public but media industry ensures that they just represent it, and not to flash any rumours. Media should let public decide what is good or not. In addition to it social media platform need some regulation criteria before anyone post any information. It is hard to stop spread of fake news but public can detect and immune themselves from this poison. References Allcott, H., & Gentzkow, M. (2017). Social media and fake news in the 2016 election.
