Reasons why IT Projects Fail
 Lack of Governance
Project processes, roles, processes and outcomes are not actively establish
ed and
monitored to make it successful. Governance is required to be supported and
accepted at all management levels.
 Internal Politics –
Open and free communication is essential for focus on the value of the project to
the company.
 Poor Communication between IT & Business –
The terms and language used must be such that all can understand and appreciate.
IT people should have a listening mentality to calmly understand the issue of the
business users so that they can solve the problems.
 Unclear Expectation-
Usually the expectations related to the project are quite ambiguous which makes it
difficult to understand and analyze so that a large amount of resources and time
are wasted in undertaking it initially. In is necessary to prioritize the requirements
of the stakeholders to produce 100% solutions.
 Lack of Fact Based Analysis-
Generally the plan layout made is merely on the opinions and assumptions and
not on facts and hence are not realistic when applied. Those do not stand good in
case on long term projects as the progression takes place due to environmental
changes, political shuffling, etc....
