Hydropower makes up 7% of total U.S. electricity generation. It continues to be the United States’ largest source of renewable electricity, reducing potential carbon emissions by 200 million metric tons each year. The Grand Coulee Dam built on the Columbia River in Washington State is part of our hydropower infrastructure and is one of the largest public works projects ever undertaken. It still is the largest electric power-producing facility in the United States.
