COMM 1002: Multiculturalism - Dr. Prasad Bidaye Creative Response (10%) The Purpose This exercise has a two-pronged purpose: · It introduces long-form journalism (also known as creative nonfiction) as a resource for critically engaging issues of racialization. · It also gives you an opportunity to use a more personal, less academic, and potentially creative voice in your writing, one which you can develop further for your final assignment in the course. The Task You are going to write a creative response to one of two authors discussed in this module: Desmond Cole or Eternity Martis. Your response can be written as a letter, but you can also be creative in using another style or format for communicating your ideas, so long as you fulfil the task of addressing the author of the essay. Your response should address the FOUR of the following five prompts (not necessarily in this order): · Discuss the essay’s most valuable insights on topics such as racial identity, racism, racialization, racial inequity, multiculturalism and other social issues related to this module and course in general. · Appreciate the author’s tone and writing style. · Challenge, question, or critique 1-2 points in the essay. · Question: as per the words of Cole, how different is the “skin” you are in – how is it similar to the “skin” of the author? · How does the author’s essay and/or author make us feel hopeful? and/or joy? You are welcome to bring in other ideas into your response so long as your work meets the requirement above. The Format and Deadline The expected word count is between 500 and 600 words in APA format. Upload your work as a PDF file to the Blackboard folder for this assignment by 11:59 PM on Monday, April 3, 2023.  The Rubric Criteria Value Quality of response to at least 4 prompts /8 Use of a creative/personal style /1 APA format /1 Total /10

Dear Eternity Martis,
I read your essay "London, Ontario Was a Racist Asshole to Me" with a mix of
emotions, ranging from anger to sadness. It's disheartening to hear about the racism and discrimination you faced in London, Ontario, and I commend you for sharing your experiences with the world. Your essay has touched many readers, including me, and has shed light on the harsh reality of racism that still exists in our society.
Your insights on racial identity, racism, and racialization are valuable as they help us understand the complex nature of these issues. As a reader, I appreciated the way you articulated the nuances of racial identity and how it can differ even among people of the same race. You have highlighted the struggles of being a Black woman in a predominantly White society, where micro-aggressions and overt acts of racism are a daily occurrence. Your account of the "skin you are in" and how it is different from that of White individuals is eye-opening and serves as a...
