Introduction
Healthcare is a very wide industry inculcating various professions such as doctors, physiolo
gists, pathologists and any more. This diversity is because during the treatment of any disease, various aspects of that disease have to be treated and only one profession cannot fulfil that requirement. Therefore, the concept of Multidisciplinary team arises with the involvement of healthcare workers from different professions, each of them providing specific service to the patient.
Identified Issues
Mental health problems can have dynamic reasons but some are very common and from those common issues three are identified from the video.
· Loneliness
· Parental issues
· Social pressure (YouTube, 2011)
However, there can be multiple issues since, most of time, individuals fail to realise that a reason or an act that they might be performing on a daily basis can lead to mental health issues therefore, they neglect it and fall under mental diseases. One such example is work stress because every individual faces it most of the days and it becomes a lifestyle for them, as supported by Cohen, Gianaros and Manuck (2016), workplace stress had been identified as one of the major reasons behind the development of mental health diseases.
Principles of Trauma-Informed Care and Practice (TICP) and Identified Issues
Mental issues can arise from multiple reasons some may be noticed while some may not. However, trauma has been kept at the top on the list of most common reasons behind mental diseases. It has been observed, from mental health patients and substance abuse consumers, that trauma was the major reason behind their mental health and substance abuse condition. Trauma-informed care and practice (TICP) is a very wide and much targeted approach that has the potential to recognise and acknowledge the major reasons behind trauma. Not only is this approach mean to identify the reasons behind traumatic condition but also it incorporates awareness and sensitivity to its dynamics, which is reflected from all aspects of service delivery.
A trauma-based approach requires viewing the affected individual as having been harmed by someone or something and TICP functions on a trauma based approach. It is a grounded approach that is directed towards the understanding of neurological, psychological, biological, social effects and interpersonal violence. It also inculcates the prevalence of mentioned experiences among the individuals who are already receiving mental health services (Australian Institute of Family Studies, 2016). As observed from the current case, as the patient may be suffering from trauma due to social pressure or parental issues or loneliness or as a consequence of her action of moving with her boyfriend against her parents will.
TICP basically functions based on strength-based framework responsible for providing safety not only to the affected individual but also to the healthcare service providers. This is because the service providers should be able to connect with the patient therefore, their empowerment is necessary. As mentioned by Raja, Hasnain, Hoersch, Gove-Yin and Rajagopalan (2015), it is necessary to ensure safety throughout the organisation, organisation here does not mean any company but the team included in the work including the affected individual and health care providers. Likewise, people should feel physically and emotionally safe in order to eradicate the stress issues, which is the major cause behind trauma.
Parental issues are one the emerging reason behind the substance use and mental health problems among youth and children. As supported by Estevez, Jauregui, Sanchez-Marcos, Lopez-Gonzalez and Griffiths (2017), emotional regulations and parental attachments are the major reasons behind substance use. In order to suppress emotions or to run away from the attachment individuals rely on substances such as cannabis or weed, alcohol and drugs. All these substances create hallucinations and make the body and emotional support numb so that the user cannot feel anything, as seen in case of Mark (Sane Australia, 2019). However, TICP is a very collaborative approach that also incorporates the concept of mutuality. Staff and the clients are organised based on collaborating and levelling of power differences. It basically focus on the concept that healing especially emotional healing, which gets impaired during mental health disorders, happens in relationship...
